Time to do a check in

How are you doing on those 2018 goals?

I know we all start out the beginning of the year with these new beginnings and an intense focus on what you are going to do differently in the next 12 months. But then life happens. Things come up. The number of emails in your inbox keeps climbing. Stuff just keeps getting thrown at us and too easily we can swerve off course and go back to our norm.

I don’t know about you, but I do not want my 2018 to look like my 2017. I want it to be better. Well, don’t you?

Time to do a check-in.

I’m about to get really raw with you as I share when the ah-ha moment came to me that I need to do this frequently.

You see, I found myself at a networking event this month and all I could feel was overwhelm encompassing my body and mind. Nothing specific or catastrophic had happened, but I could feel myself slipping back into old routines of being overly optimistic with my time.

After the event, I came back to the tena.cious office and realized I would be all alone for the rest of the day. I thought it would be an awesome time to knock a ton of stuff out! But soon anxiety filled me; my to-do list seemed too long to even think about tackling, feelings of self doubt and failure consumed my thoughts and the guilt of working late was creeping in. I just wanted to shut down.

I remember just sitting there, staring at my computer, then put my head in my hands and shed a few tears. I hadn’t reached the point I was at last year of feeling out of control and unbalanced… yet. But that was the scary part; that word… yet. I could easily go back to my old routine and then find myself 3, 6, 9 or 12 (eek!) months later feeling the same as I did last year.

Again, I don’t plan on going back to my old ways. Anyone else with me?!

That day was such a quick realization that we must be doing check-ins with ourselves all of the time- especially when it comes to our goals. If we don’t like where we are headed, let’s change it.

And this goes for all goals; financial, emotional, personal. They all need to be re-evaluated and tracked so we can stand there on December 31st, 2018 knowing we totally crushed this year.

How are you going to do check-ins to keep on track with your 2018 goals?

Because, this year is totally your year.
